A fire at Tuptup Resto and Resort in the Patuartek area of Inani, Cox’s Bazar, killed at least 10 people and injured four others on Saturday morning, October 17, according to reports from Bangladeshi news outlets.

The fire broke out at around 7:25 am and rapidly spread through the resort’s wooden structure. Fire Service and Civil Defence teams responded to the scene and brought the blaze under control by around 11 am. The resort was extensively destroyed.

The incident has raised serious concerns about safety standards at tourist accommodation facilities. According to the Fire Service, the resort had been identified as hazardous during an inspection in June and was operating without the required fire safety licence despite receiving a warning.

The cause of the fire and the identities of the victims had not been officially established in the reports reviewed. The incident has renewed calls for stronger inspections and better fire protection at resorts in Cox’s Bazar and other tourist destinations.
