The UEFA Champions League delivered a night of surprises, comebacks and late drama on Tuesday, 13 October, as Club Brugge stunned Inter Milan 4–3, Barcelona recovered from an early setback to beat Galatasaray 4–1, and Arsenal continued their strong start with a 3–0 win over Lille.
The second matchday of the 2026/27 league phase also brought disappointment for Bayern Munich, who were held to a 3–3 draw by Viking after recovering from an early two-goal deficit. Atlético Madrid defeated Manchester United 2–0, while Villarreal came from behind to beat Napoli 3–1.
But the most striking result came at San Siro, where Club Brugge turned a difficult away fixture into one of the competition’s early talking points.
Club Brugge Deliver a Stunning Blow to Inter
Club Brugge beat Inter Milan 4–3 in a seven-goal contest powered by Nicolò Tresoldi’s hat-trick.
Tresoldi opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Inter captain Lautaro Martínez brought the hosts back into the contest. The Belgian side continued to threaten in transition, and Tresoldi struck twice more to complete his treble.
Romeo Vermant added a fourth for the visitors, leaving Inter chasing the game. Martínez scored again and Ange-Yoan Bonny found the net in stoppage time, but Inter could not find another equaliser.
The result underlined how quickly a match can turn when defensive mistakes meet a side willing to attack with pace and conviction.
For Club Brugge, the victory offered a major statement of intent in the league phase. Tresoldi’s performance also moved him to the top of the Champions League scoring chart, with four goals in the competition at that point.
For Inter, the defeat raised immediate questions about defensive control in a match in which three goals were not enough to secure even a point.
Barcelona recovered from an early deficit to win 4–1 in Istanbul.
