Bangladesh’s Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examination results for 2026 were published on Saturday, October 31, with the overall pass rate falling to 52.12%, down from 58.83% last year. A total of 40,084 students achieved the highest Grade Point Average, GPA-5, across the country’s 11 education boards.
Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon announced the results at 11am at the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Ministry of Education in Dhaka. Students can access their results online, through their educational institutions or by SMS.
The results cover examinations under nine general education boards, the Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board and the Bangladesh Technical Education Board. A total of 1,270,583 candidates appeared for the examinations, which involved 9,439 educational institutions and 2,697 examination centres.
Pass rate declines from last year
The overall pass rate dropped by 6.71 percentage points compared with 2025, when 58.83% of candidates passed. The latest figures point to another challenging year for students across the country’s higher-secondary education system.
Although 40,084 candidates secured GPA-5, the number of top-grade achievers remained an important measure of performance across the different education boards. Of those earning GPA-5, 3,250 were from the Madrasah Education Board, compared with 4,268 last year. The Technical Education Board recorded 886 GPA-5 achievers, down from 1,610 in 2025.
The national figures combine general HSC examinations with equivalent programmes, including Alim and technical education courses. Performance therefore varies across different examination streams, and the overall pass rate alone does not explain the reasons behind the decline.
